Kallima Gardens

The Brief
to redesign the planted areas around the reflecting pools of an upmarket hotel in West London. There are six pools in total, four in one area and two in another. The gardens have no irrigation therefore plants need to be drought tolerant. The design needs to have a strong concept. Maintenance should be kept to a minimum.
The Concept
This hotel stands in the beautiful grounds of Syon Park where many years before stood ‘The Butterfly House’, once a favourite family destination. Therefore, it was nice to see that the hotel’s branding pays homage to the butterfly house and Garden Couture Ltd. wanted this to be reflected in the design too. Therefore plants that made it onto the list are the ones that, besides meeting the criteria of the brief, were also ‘butterfly magnets’.
